Overview
Operating since 1994, the New York Institute of Massage, Inc. (Hereinafter referred to as NYIM) is located in Williamsville, a growing suburb of Buffalo, NY. NYIM offers a 48 week (full-time) program and a 96-week (parttime) program in massage therapy. Established to answer the need for trained massage therapists in the community, NYIM educates individuals in the skills and knowledge necessary for a professional career as a Licensed Massage Therapist.
 

Mission Statement
NYIM recognizes the importance of massage therapy by a Licensed Massage Therapist as a complementary therapy to traditional medicine and provides the necessary training to develop the skills; professionalism and knowledge needed to be a successful massage therapist. NYIM is committed to offering a comprehensive program enabling graduates to qualify for positions as Licensed Massage Therapists. It is our goal to protect the public by producing qualified massage therapists.

What does it mean to be approved?

In New York State, a citizen body called the Board of Regents is responsible for education at all levels. It is in charge of education, licensing, and discipline of licensed professionals. The Board of Regents, along with the New York State Department of Education, sets standards of registration for schools across New York State.

NYIM is approved by the NYS Board of Regents and is registered with the NYS Department of Education. Our program complies with all regulations set forth in the Massage Handbook of the NYS Department of Education.

The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency. The New York Institute of Massage has been recognized by ACCSC as a 2005 School of Distinction.

The National College Credit Recommendation Service (formerly National Program on Noncollegiate Sponsored Instruction, or National PONSI), a service of the University of the State of New York.is a component of the internationally recognized State University of New York (SUNY) system. Starting in July 1999, they have recommended college level credit for courses completed under NYIM’s 675 hour program offered from November 1996 to November 1999. College credit recommendations for the current 1,104-hour program is listed at the end of each course description.

Career College Association (CCA) is considered one of the premier educational associations in the nation’s capital because of its ability to represent its membership effectively at the White House, on Capitol Hill, before the Departments of Education and Labor, at the FTC and SEC, and within the higher education community. CCA exists to promote the interests of its members, their executives, faculty, administrators, students, and the employers for whom students are being trained. CCA provides its members with “an office and a voice in Washington” and offers a number of benefits.

NYIM is approved by the Florida Board of Massage Therapy and has met all requirements of Florida State Licensure.

NYIM is also in good standing with the Ohio State Medical Board.

What professional affiliations does NYIM have?

NYIM is a member in good standing of the Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP), a national association that

facilitates and promotes the practice of ethics and professional acceptance in massage therapy.

NYIM is a member in good standing of the American Medical Massage Association.

NYIM is a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA).
