Objectives

The overall goals for the Massage Therapy Program are to assist each student in gaining entry level knowledge of the human body and technical skills as a massage therapist.

  • The student will show proficiency and confidence in classic and contemporary massage techniques.
  • The student will have a practical knowledge of oriental bodywork theory and application.
  • The student will have a practical knowledge of anatomy and physiology and its relationship to massage therapy.
  • The student will have practical experience with several specialized areas of massage therapy.
  • The student will have experience with state of the art computer technology for operations in Student Clinic and later in their practice.
  • The student will participate in community service activities and marketing of themselves as massage therapists.
  • The student will be aware of the range of employment possibilities and shall have an opportunity to achieve personal goals.
  • The student will have the knowledge to converse with, receive and make referrals to other health professionals.

Completion of the Massage program at NYIM will fulfill requirements for graduates to sit for the New York State licensing exam for the practice of massage therapy and the National Certification Boards.
