Becoming a Skilled Massage Therapist

The Massage Therapy program at New York Institute of Massage was carefully constructed to help you develop your skills, knowledge, and professionalism – qualities you need in order to become a successful Massage Therapist.

Students learn theory and practice hands-on skills as they prepare to take the New York State board exam. If you feel like you need some remedial classes before you take your exam, you’re in luck because NYIM offers free review classes to students and graduates.

During your Massage Therapy classes, you’ll learn:

Once you successfully complete the program and pass the state board exam, NYIM will add you to our placement list for new referrals. Hands-On Training with Real Clients

Gain confidence when you practice your newfound massage therapy skills in our Student Clinic. You’ll get first-hand experience in operating a professional Massage Therapy practice in a supervised environment (you’ll be overseen by an LMT). Over the course of 80 massage sessions, you’ll practice techniques learned in each term, including Introduction to Massage, Massage Techniques, Oriental Massage, and Medical Massage.

Flexible Schedules

You don’t have to wait around for months once you’ve decided to enroll. New terms begin approximately every 12 weeks, so you can begin taking classes almost immediately and get one step closer to achieving your career goals.

Full-time students can complete the program in as little as 1 year* (4 terms), and part-time students can complete the program in just under 2 years (8 terms).

Class Schedule
  • Full-time (48-week course) – 5 days per week, 4.5 hours per day, plus 80 clinic hours
  • Part-time (96-week course) – 2-3 days per week, 4.5 hours per day, plus 80 clinic hours
    **Additional community service hours are required

NYIM reserves the right to add or cancel any class start date or session it deems necessary. Every consideration will be given to students, assisting in their enrollment in an alternate session or date, as enrollment space permits. Listed below are term start/end dates for this edition of the program catalog.

**Dates may vary due to state boards. Start dates and breaks are subject to change due to weather conditions or any other extenuating circumstances. Breaks are given between most terms and range from 2-5 class days.

Class Options

Classes are offered at 3 convenient times:

  • Morning – Monday – Friday 8 am-12:30 pm
  • Afternoon – Monday – Friday 1 pm-5:30 pm
  • Night – Monday – Friday 6 pm-10:30 pm

Tuition & Related Expenses

The cost breakdown for the entire Massage Therapy program is outlined below, as well as the books and supplies you need and where to find them. Federal Student Aid, Pell Grants, Veterans Benefits and scholarships are available to those who qualify. See the Financial Aid page to learn more.

Tuition
  • Tuition – $19,600.00 ($17.44 per clock hour)
  • Registration fee** – $150.00

**The registration is required within two weeks of acceptance to secure the student’s seat in the program and is applied towards tuition.

There are 2 payment options you can choose from. You can pay per term (4 terms full time, 8 part time) or make a monthly payment with 0% interest.

Additional Expenses

  • A background check from Erie County Resident** – $25.00 plus tax (non-refundable)
  • A background check from non-Erie County Resident** – $30.00 plus tax (non-refundable)
  • Books and required supply package $906.84 (plus applicable NYS sales tax)
    **If the applicant has not lived in the current county of residence for at least thirty (30) days, an additional background release form and fee must be submitted for a background check in the previous county of residence.

ALL Payments must be in the form of a check, money order, certified check or charge card. No cash will be accepted. Applicants will be charged $35 for any returned checks.

The School Supply Package (required of every student) includes school shirts, scrub top, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, single holster, handouts, and a photo identification card. The cost of the School Supply Package is $283.31 plus applicable NYS sales tax.

If you choose to purchase all textbooks from the bookstore, in addition to the School Supply Package, the total cost would be $876.78 plus applicable NYS sales tax. The School Supply Package contents and all prices are subject to change. Substitutions are not allowed. Students are responsible for all personal supplies and notebooks.
